July 4th Free Da Mic showcases local talent

On Thursday, July 4, Black Power 96 Radio hosted Free Da Mic! Free Da African Nation! Open Mic night.

The community heard dynamic performances by several featured performers including BLA, V.O.C.A.L.E, GBT Babies, Krown and Crunk Coco as well as community members who came up to the open mic.

Uhuru Movement leader Omali Yeshitela was gave a moving presentation on the importance of Black Power 96 Radio and the black community owning and controlling our own media.

Three city council candidates also attended and gave brief statements:
– Philip Garrett, District 5 candidate
– Anne Hirsch, District 5 candidate
– Eritha Akilé Cainion, District 7 candidate

The event was part of the July Member Fund Drive and exceeded it’s goal of contributing $1,000 through donations and pledges to the radio station toward the the overall goal of $7,000 for the month.
