Tune in to My People’s Keeper on Thursday, June 14 at 2pm Eastern Time. Host Diakiesse Lungisani interviews CeCe Peniston, one of the most successful dance club artists in the history of the U.S. Billboard “Hot Dance Music/Club Play” charts.
CeCe Peniston Bio
CeCe Peniston spent her formative years singing before her congregation at her church in Phoenix, Arizona. The real testament of her talent was in 1987 when Peniston, then a high school student, landed a part in a local production of Bubbling Brown Sugar.
In 1991, Peniston’s hit single “Finally” hit the charts and CeCe accomplished what all talented artists can only dream of, inking a deal for her own debut album.
By the end of 1992, Peniston received several awards for her achievements in the music industry including: Best New Artist (Dance), three ASCAP Awards and POP Songwriter of The Year, Best Dance Solo Artist, Best 12’ Dance Record at the Annual Winter Music Conference, and the BMI Urban Award of Achievement. The album itself was a 1993 Soul Train Music Award nominee for Best R&B/Soul Album (Female Category). By year’s end, Peniston was named the No.1 Billboard “Hot Dance Music/Club Play” Artist. Her hit remains at the top of all club/party playlists to this day.
Today, CeCe is reinventing herself, taking on a whole new image. Her love of bringing care and goodness to others is a way of inspiring her to write lyrics to songs that really matter. One of her most recent singles is entitled “Nothing Can Stop Me Now”, a title truly fitting for the next phase of CeCe’s life. The song has gained momentum and is heating up radio stations in NYC, Richmond, Charlotte, Augusta, Columbus, Little Rock, and Oklahoma City.
Music Choice, Sirius radio and DJs across the globe have all agreed that CeCe is back and is fantastic. Her upcoming travels include performances domestically and abroad with six songs that are album ready.
In addition to writing and recording for her new album, CeCe has taken stage in another type of spotlight. In 2014, she publically logged her personal commitment and journey to health and wellness. Though she has done much traveling for performances, she has remained committed to physical training and completed her 2014 goal of competing in the NPC Bikini Competition.
For her, it’s about achieving, and it’s just the beginning as she dawns her 25th year in the industry. Though she’s a veteran to the stage, and a timeless classic to every turntable, she’s never stop exploring her groove and constantly improving. Hard work always pays off, and she’s ready to prove that in 2017. Watch out for CeCe Peniston, a woman who’s moving on and making a way for a stronger, more confident CeCe.
